BOC Decision: No ReZone of Rural Wooded!

KEC • June 24, 2025

We are very pleased that the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners has voted to Keep Kitsap Green, by protecting rural Kitsap from large-scale residential overdevelopment.

At 1:20 pm, June 23, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners decided, after hearing public testimony for nearly 3 hours,  in a 2/1 vote, to approve the amended reclassification docket , thereby  removing the 14 Rural Residential Rezone Requests  from further consideration.

Commissioner Rolfes clarified that this hearing was on the rezone applications only and did not include the NKU proposal for recreational facilities. She ended with hope that friends divided by this issue can find a way to come back together.

For those keeping count:

44 spoken comments (in-person and online)

25 – Opposed the Rural Residential Rezones

19 – Supported the Rural Residential Rezones

Duration – 3 hours, 20 minutes (with a 10-minute break)

Thank you, everyone, for your hard work over months and years on this challenging issue.

Our work is not done, but it is time to celebrate what we all , our community, and commissioners have accomplished together.

This is not about winning or losing, but an opportunity to come together on our shared goal of a bright future for the generations to come.
