Community Forest Walk & Talk: Green Mountain Forests

We’re excited to have Joshua Wright with us again! Many of you met Josh at the KEC Presents discussion on Sunday, November 19. What a great learning experience it was.

Now we have the opportunity to walk and talk with Josh (from the Legacy Forest Defense Coalition of Washington) while walking through the beautiful forests of Green Mountain.

We’ll learn what is meant by legacy forests. We’ll learn and experience—through sight, sound, touch, and smell—the differences between forests harvested before 1946 and those harvested more recently.

Green Mountain contains land managed by the state’s Department of Natural Resources. Some of those lands are scheduled for timber harvest sale in early 2024. Should it all be harvested? What’s the difference between the two “Breaking Bud” units scheduled for sale? (Maybe Josh can even tell us where these timber sale names come from.)

The walk will provide you with the info you need to send a message to our Kitsap County Commissioners as well as Washington State’s Commissioner of Public Lands, about how to “Protect the Best, Restore the Rest” when conducting timber sales.

Below is a map (or use Google) to help you find the meeting place: The Gold Creek Trailhead off of Gold Creek Road W.

Please bring your Discover Pass for parking. The walk is on—rain or shine! We hope to see you Saturday but if you can’t attend, no worries. We’ll be having another Green Mountain Walk & Talk in early 2024.

When: Sunday, December 9th @ 10 AM – Rain or Shine, the Walk is on!

Where: Gold Creek Trailhead, off of Gold Creek Road W
