2021 Year In Review – Tree Planting For Earth Day

KEC and the Kitsap County community went all out for Earth Day 2020, planting altogether, +/- 970 trees in the Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park.  Arno Bergstrom and the Kitsap County Parks Department generously donated the trees for this project. We initially planned to plant the trees on Earth Day, April 22nd but due to various COVID related issues, we were unable to do that. I kept them alive throughout the winter at my farm and we finally had a couple windows to plant them in November of 2020. The community enthusiasm and energy were incredible. Many volunteers of all ages took part in this endeavor!

In addition to arranging to acquire the trees, the preparation consisted of obtaining the soil to pot them in, and the volunteers to pot the trees. It was quite an assembly line! A big thanks to both Shorts Family Farm and Vern’s Organic Topsoil for providing the soil to nurture these trees.

The trees have been checked on regularly and are mostly doing very well!

We’re looking forward to joining with other groups in 2022 for more tree planting.
