Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics, and Ecology (FUSEE) – Cultural Burning Speaker Series

Please join us for a virtual speaker series on cultural burning by renowned Indigenous fire practitioners, hosted by Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics, and Ecology (FUSEE) on Oct 27th & Nov 1st at 6pm.

Cultural burning is a means of Indigenous land stewardship using fire to stimulate the natural productivity and ecological sustainability of fire-adapted plants, animals, and habitats. Cultural burning enhances biological diversity, increases water flows, and protects communities by reducing fuel hazards that feed high-intensity wildfires. It offers one of the solutions to the climate-wildfire crisis.

Thursday October 27 from 6-7pm (Pacific):  Bill Tripp, Karuk Tribal Member
Tuesday November 1 from 6-7pm (Pacific): Joe Scott, Member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians

Register to attend here. All ticket proceeds go to honorarium for the speakers.

With more than 100 years of industrial extraction-focused forestry and climate change now making fire suppression no longer a viable strategy for protecting communities from wildfire, it is long past time to listen to & elevate the voices of the original stewards of these lands. Learning from & supporting the expertise and practices of indigenous communities is vital to changing our relationship with wildfire, and helping communities & ecosystems adapt and thrive into the future.

Thanks, hope to see you there!
