Intelligent Trees posterSuzanne Simard’s Intelligent Trees

Trees are so much more than rows of wood waiting to be turned into furniture, buildings or firewood. They are more than organisms producing oxygen or cleaning the air for us. They are individual beings that have feelings, know friendship have a common language and look after each other. This documentary explores the various ways that trees communicate with each other- from a forester’s observations as well as through the microscope of a scientist.

The film centers around the groundbreaking scientific discoveries that Suzanne Simard has been making in the Canadian Wilderness since the 1990s and that seem to be valid for all natural forests around the world. It is amazing!

BEHIND THE EMERALD CURTAINan encore viewing Behind the Emerald Curtain poster

This film, first shown by KEC in 2019, reveals the harm happening all over western Oregon from logging on private timberland. Water contaminated, people breathing in pesticides, watersheds 80 to 90 percent clear-cut — these are the stories from Behind the Emerald Curtain.

Meet Kate Taylor, who moved to Rockaway Beach to start a business and found out her drinking water was contaminated. Listen to Maia recount her experience of breathing herbicides inside her home and collapsing into a seizure. See the clearcuts, watch the herbicides drift, hear the stories that matter. Behind the Emerald Curtain was produced by Pacific Rivers and North Fork Studios.
